Jamie Foxx Kicks Off BET Awards By Threatening To Slap The Shit Out Of The Entire Front Row For Not Cheering Loud Enough When They Heard His Name
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, Jamie Foxx is one of the most talented, hilarious, versatile entertainers to ever live. Every time he picks up a microphone it’s electric. The reason he’s so good is because he is completely unpredictable. Last night was a perfect example. I’m sure they had an entire team of writers put together an opening monologue and the second he went out there he went rogue. I could be wrong, they could’ve put, “I’ll slap the shit out of you” in the script but I doubt it. I also doubt they planned to have him Crip walk across the stage (3:57) while congratulating Michael B Jordan on Black Panther. Seems a little outdated considering the commercialization of gang violence hasn’t been a thing since Snoop Dogg dropped The Blue Carpet Treatment in 2006. But that’s neither here nor there. The point is that Jamie Foxx took an unbelievable amount of shit on Twitter last night for his performance and none of it was warranted.
It’s like they forgot who Jamie Foxx is; a wildly over the top comedian whose job is to take risks. If he had gone out there and been boring he would’ve been roasted just as hard. Was the performance a bit much? Probably. But as far as I’m concerned, he gets a pass. He’s put in his time when it comes to the entertainment industry. This one is a mulligan. Take it away Jamie.
